Everything about Ahds Visual Arts totally explained

AHDS Visual Arts is part of the free UK educational service, the Arts and Humanities Data Service. It collects, preserves and provides online access to digital visual arts resources that are free for use in research, learning and teaching. The resources cover the full range of academic subject areas across the visual arts, including painting, design, architecture, sculpture, crafts, fashion, art history, printmaking and increasingly, digital media. The material consists primarily of digital images, but also includes websites, text-based datasets and databases, moving images and sound files, web essays, case studies, primary research output and aggregate teaching and learning resources. To date, around 100,000 digital images are currently available via the AHDS Visual Arts catalogue at: http://www.vads.ahds.ac.uk/search.php AHDS Visual Arts also provides a free advice service for the preservation, digitisation or dissemination of educational visual arts resources. Advice is based on established good practice to help maximise the long term potential of resources.
AHDS Visual Arts is based at the Farnham Campus of the University College for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester and is one of five Centres, which together with an Executive, make up the Arts and Humanities Data Service (AHDS). The AHDS and AHDS Visual Arts are funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).
With the discontinuation of funding for the AHDS after March 2008, AHDS Visual Arts is working closely with its host institution, the University College for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone & Rochester, to develop a strategy for the future that will safe-guard the resources, services and expertise offered by the visual arts subject centre, and enable the centre to respond to the shifting agenda and needs of their UK HE/FE user community. As part of its continuation strategy, the 'Visual Arts Data Service' (the original name for AHDS Visual Arts) will be reinstated, and the 'VADS' brand will move the centre's work seamlessly into the post-AHDS era.
